Accessibility in Hotels of Bacalar, Pueblo Mágico, Quintana Roo, Mexico
Synopsis
This research followed a mixed-methods approach, employing a descriptive and cross-sectional design. The objective was to analyze accessibility in hotels in Bacalar, Pueblo Mágico, in the state of Quintana Roo, using the methodology proposed by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). Until recently, the concept of accessibility was primarily associated with the medical model, focusing on individuals with disabilities. However, it is now embraced as a social equality model, recognizing that at some point in life, everyone will require accessible goods and services. The findings reveal that Bacalar presents an opportunity for hotel establishments to serve to this market segment. This highlights the need to reflect on the actions being taken by enterprises and public service managers to foster hotel innovation, positioning Bacalar as a competitive and inclusive destination.
