Potential of Inclusive Tourism on the Beaches of La Paz Municipality, Baja California Sur (BCS), Mexico: Evaluation and Perspective from the Demand and Supply Sides
Synopsis
The spread of accessible tourism has progressed at a slow pace, partly due to insufficient interest and/or a genuine cultural commitment beyond discourse. This study aims to update and strengthen the analysis of the potential for inclusive tourism based on alternative activities from both the supply and demand perspectives at Playa Coromuel, Baja California Sur, Mexico. The research followed mixed-methods, including a documentary review, surveys conducted on a random sample, interviews using the snowball sampling technique, and the application of an accessibility checklist. The results indicate that the area has infrastructure that facilitates mobility, such as signage, a beach ramp, and an amphibious wheelchair. However, it is considered that the conditions are not yet optimal for the implementation of low-impact inclusive activities, due to a lack of trained personnel and appropriate facilities to accommodate groups with specific types of disabilities.
